I recently came across websites for 2 musicians who are practicioners of Carl Stough's Method of Breathing Coordination.
Practitioner of the Stough Method of Breathing Coordination for over 35 years and operatic soprano Karen Saillant Bygott, MMus, published an article, Breath: Your Life Depends on It, in the Winter 2002 edition of the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation Journal. This article, available online at her website, explains the Stough Method of Breathing Coordination and how it can help you.
Steven Flam's Breathing Rx website offers information about Breathing Coordination and downloadable learning products for singers who wish to learn breathing coordination.
Flam states several things that I have have known and taught for a very long time.
"COORDINATED BREATHING INCLUDES:He offers a free monthly teleseminar teaching 2 techniques including Basic Diaphragm release. Next time I am free at that time on Monday I'll call in.
* Not holding the breath.
* Breathing never stops.
* As soon as you finish inhaling, you start exhaling.
* The diaphragm is in constant motion.
* The motion is natural and unforced.
* An unimpeded wave of expansion starting with the lower abdomen and spreads like a wave upward toward the head.
* An exhale is the contracting of the rib cage in a wave, starting in the upper chest and spreading downward toward the feet."
Flam offers for sale 2 downloadable products for sale targeting singers (though I am sure they would be of use to wind and brass players):
