Recently, while explaining a grupetto (turn) to a student for the first time, it occurred to me that it is analogous to a winding path--there is always a destination, even though we enjoy the view enroute.
Keeping the destination in mind while playing ornaments helps us create graceful ornaments and good phrasing. But please remember to take enough time to "smell the roses"--make beautiful tone on each note!
